ASB: Off-road bikes seized and reckless teenage riders detained after police aircraft pursuit 🚨
Two reckless off-road bikers riders thought balaclavas, speed and alleyway hideouts would keep them out of sight from us. But they were wrong - because every inch of their dangerous ride across Doncaster was being watched from above 👀
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) tracked the pair as they speeded past traffic, tore up sports pitches and blasted across public parks in speeds their modified bikes were never meant to reach. They undertook cars, overtook on blind bends and rode straight across pitches and parks. When they finally ditched the bikes in an alleyway and crouched behind a fence, officers from our Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team were already closing in.
Second later, both were detained and both bikes were seized. It is against the law to ride off-road bikes on public roads in the UK without a valid insurance, licence, road tax and registration plate 🚫 Riding them in parks and on pitches is also illegal too, and when bikes are modified to hit speeds of potentially more than 60mph, the risk of a serious or fatal collision dramatically increases.
📢 Doncaster East NPT Inspector Alison Carr said: "This isn't harmless fun. These bikes can cause catastrophic injuries. People deserve to use parks, roads and footpaths without the threat of off-road bikes flying past." She also had this message for parents: "Before you buy an off-road bike for your child, please consider whether they can ride it legally and just how fast it can travel. "Help us prevent tragedies before they happen as the last thing we want to do is knock on your door to tell you your child has been seriously injured, or worse."
