As part of our crime mapping, we are still seeing a high number of Hanoi burglaries being committed in your area. A Hanoi burglary is where a burglary is committed and a vehicle is stolen in the process. This could mean the burglary was committed, with the intention of stealing the vehicle, or it could have been an after thought when the vehicle keys were seen in the house. The types of vehicles that are targeted, are normally high value or high-powered vehicles, such as BMW's or Audi's.
So, what can you do to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a Hanoi burglary? The below options provide some tips for your house and for your vehicle.
House - • Ensure doors are locked (even when you are inside during the day) • Don't leave a key inside the door if there is a letterbox close to it. • Use additional locks on patio doors such as a Patlock. • At night, close curtains and consider leaving a light on. • Consider using a doorbell camera that will alert you if someone approaches your door. • Consider fitting dusk to dawn lighting outside your address. • Ensure that car keys are left out of sight, and nowhere near an entrance door. Vehicle - • Ensure you close all the windows, and lock all the doors (If you are in a rush, it is easy to forget to do this) • Fit a secured by design approved steering wheel lock. • Close and lock gates, using a gold standard sold secure padlock. • Fit bollards that would prevent the vehicle moving. • Fit a CCTV camera that will alert you if movement is picked up. • Consider fitting a tracker to the vehicle. • If you are unable to park on a drive, park in an area where there are streetlights. • If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, inform the Police.
